The standard, "ANSI/NISO Z39.19 - 2005 Guidelines for the Construction, Format, and Management of Monolingual Controlled Vocabularies", was approved and published on July 25 2005.

The standard has been expanded considerably and has grown to 172 pages. This revision of the Z39.19 standard includes:

• The scope of the revised standard addresses the needs presented by a variety of information producing organizations and different types of content; examples throughout the document are relevant to business and industry.
