New Vocabulary Management Standard Approved and Published.
The standard, "ANSI/NISO Z39.19 - 2005 Guidelines for the Construction, Format, and Management of Monolingual Controlled Vocabularies", was approved and published on July 25 2005.

The standard has been expanded considerably and has grown to 172 pages. This revision of the Z39.19 standard includes:
- More user-friendly language and explanations of important concepts and principles.
- The standard takes into account changes in information technology, the various ways that users search or browse, and the many types of content they find.
- The scope of the revised standard addresses the needs presented by a variety of information producing organizations and different types of content; examples throughout the document are relevant to business and industry.
The new Z39.19 standard will be a useful if not essential reference for anyone engaged in building and maintaining taxonomies and thesauri and we recommend you download the final approved version.
